Do you have to sell your soul to survive in business? By Soleira Green

Categories: authenticity

A friend of mine was once travelling on a plane and a business man sat down beside her. After a brief conversation about Corporate Soul (she was on her way to speak at one of our conferences), he said to her "Do you really believe it's possible for one to open their heart again after all these years?" The poignancy of that moment touches deep.

For some time now, a small, still voice has been rising from within for so many people. That voice keeps saying "There's more to life than this. There's more to business than just the pursuit of profit. There's more to management than just 'do what we tell you to do.' And there's more to working than just keeping on keeping on."

For some, that voice has already produced action. Look at how many people you know who've dropped out of the corporate game over the past few years to find a more satisfying and fulfilling life. But why? Why can't we find it within organisations as opposed to far away from it all?

The good news is that you can! It is going to take some effort on your part and some agreement on the part of others to play in a new way, but it definitely can be done!

People with soul like themselves...a lot. They feel good inside themselves...they're whole. Their days are filled with things that make a difference to themselves or others. They love the autonomy of making their own choices in life and seeking their own visions. They are true to themselves always and stay aligned with / true to the visions they uphold.

Organisations with soul are alive with vitality, passion and creativity. People enjoy coming to work every day and everyone feels a part of turning out the whole. These organisations recognise that they are a part of a living eco-system, our world...and they strive constantly to keep the focus on the right places...the people, the relationships and the contribution to the greater picture.

You don't have to sell your soul to survive and get ahead in business. In fact in this new millennium, success IS going to go to those people and companies of soul...who passionately and creatively empower and inspire others to be all that they can be. These are the new leaders for a new era.

New leaders align vision and action, integrity and passion, contribution and profit.

New leaders are alchemical listeners, calling greatness out of everyone they engage with.

New leaders are passionate speakers, connected in to the things that make people's hearts soar and their souls sing.

New leaders make sure that the atmosphere (the energy) around their workplaces are alive with possibility, with openness, with consideration and with vision.

New leaders are so alive with their own passions and visions that they seem to have an unending supply of energy that others just love being around.

So how can we become new leaders of and for soul? In its simplest form, by opening up our hearts and souls again. From soul comes wholeness and passion and vision. From soul comes trueness and a willingness to respect others. From this place, you can learn to be an alchemist of vision and potential...someone who is willing to stand up and be counted for the creation of something profoundly new now!

Every time you sell a piece of your soul in your business life, the whole is lessened. Every time you stand clear and true for what you know is right, the whole is strengthened. We live in an interconnected world. Isn't it time that we started operating true to that, bringing our whole selves back into daily life in our commercial world?
